We are looking forward to flax field blossoming! Now I’m right here – the sun is slightly tanning my skin, filling flax stalks with strength. How I see the linen now – it looks very serious and focused just as future parents usually look. Field became rich green colored, a little more - and it will fully change its color to light blue. It will be covered with flowers like in a fairy tales! Some days before flowering we can determine exact time which buds will bloom the next day. On clear weather days, flowers bloom at 5-6 am and blooms during 9-10 hours to the petals fall. So because of early flowering flax is so associated with the new fresh Belarusian foggy morning.
This is the last day of linen harvesting this year. The fields are mainly empty. Now all the bundles are tied and soaked, almost ready for layering open air.
Now it’s time to spread all the sheaves untied all over the free empty fields - to be wet and dried under the rains, winds, dew, snows. That’s an engrossing process - how the earth will take the moisture from stems, how rains and dews will destroy protective layer, and make the fiber free naturally. Amazing!
